Advent Begins This Sunday!
Advent begins the new church year. This year, “Year B,” the begins reading from the Gospel of Mark. In years past, the weeks leading up to Christmas were filled with shopping and parties. The Church however, calls us to slow down, to spend time in preparation for the coming of Christ. Perhaps that is the gift we are given during this pandemic. We are forced to reconsider our normal traditions and ways of doing things. Isolating forces us to slow down and to focus on the basics. Let us take the opportunity to make this Advent worthwhile.
El Adviento Comienza este Domingo!
El Adviento comienza el nuevo año eclesiástico. Este año, “Año B”, comienza la lectura del Evangelio de Marcos. En años anteriores, las semanas previas a la Navidad estuvieron llenas de compras y fiestas. Sin embargo, la Iglesia nos llama a reducir la velocidad, a dedicar tiempo a prepararnos para la venida de Cristo. Quizás ese sea el regalo que se nos da durante esta pandemia. Nos vemos obligados a reconsiderar nuestras tradiciones y formas habituales de hacer las cosas. El aislamiento nos obliga a reducir la velocidad y a concentrarnos en lo básico. Aprovechemos la oportunidad para hacer que este Adviento valga la pena.

Worship Music
This Sunday we will be including more music in our worship service. Selecting music for our blended and bilingual worship is time consuming. We come from different traditions and there aren’t a whole lot of bilingual resources to choose from.
After a great deal of deliberation, Fr. Dewayne has finally settled on the main sources we will use and the music for this Advent has finally been finalized. In order to use pre-recorded music and to live-stream it on Facebook, YouTube and our website, churches are required to purchase a podcast/live-stream license. The license pays royalties to the authors of these pieces of music. In order to stay in compliance with laws, we must publish our license whenever we broadcast/live-stream our worship. You should start seeing the following announcement in our printed and live-streamed worship:
“Permission to podcast/stream the music in this service obtained from ONE LICENSE, License #737308-A. All rights reserved.”

Este domingo incluiremos más música en nuestro servicio de adoración. Seleccionar música para nuestro culto mixto y bilingüe lleva mucho tiempo. Venimos de diferentes tradiciones y no hay muchos recursos bilingües para elegir.

COVID Hits Our Family
Over the past few weeks, several of our folks have been affected by the COVID epidemic. We give God thanks that these infections have not been severe. We continue to pray for a full recovery soon.
This week, Father Dewayne lost family member to COVID. Please, everyone, continue to practice safe social-distancing. Wear your masks. Wash your hands frequently. There is a light at then of this tunnel. Vaccines are on the way, but until we are all vaccinated, we need to remain safe so that we can all worship together once again in person.
COVID Llega a Nuestra Familia
Durante las últimas semanas, varias de nuestras personas se han visto afectadas por la epidemia de COVID. Damos gracias a Dios porque estas infecciones no han sido graves. Seguimos orando por una recuperación completa pronto.
Esta semana, el padre Dewayne perdió a un familiar a causa de COVID. Por favor, todos, continúen practicando un distanciamiento social seguro. Use sus máscaras. Lávese las manos con frecuencia. Hay una luz en ese momento de este túnel. Las vacunas están en camino, pero hasta que todos estemos vacunados, debemos permanecer seguros para que todos podamos adorar juntos una vez más en persona.
Father Dewayne to Continue Doctoral Studies
In January, Fr. Dewayne plans to resume his Doctoral (DMin) studies at Phillips Theological Seminary. This next semester he will focus on reviewing books and articles on bilingual ministry. In order to complete his Doctoral program, he will be completing a project that will focus on bilingual ministry at All Saints. This will require our folks to participate in discussions and perhaps completing surveys about the spiritual practices from their tradition.
El Padre Dewayne Continuará sus Estudios de Doctorado
En enero, el P. Dewayne planea reanudar sus estudios de Doctorado (DMin) en el Seminario Teológico Phillips. Este próximo semestre se enfocará en revisar libros y artículos sobre el ministerio bilingüe. Para completar su programa de Doctorado, completará un proyecto que se enfocará en el ministerio bilingüe en All Saints. Esto requerirá que nuestra gente participe en discusiones y tal vez complete encuestas sobre las prácticas espirituales de su tradición.
